Desk & Bench

Huddle bedside crib shown next to its converted desk and bench form

Most nursery furniture has a shelf life of about six months. You buy a crib, your baby outgrows it, and it either goes in the loft, gets sold on, or ends up in the skip. The Huddle works differently. It's built to be used from the day you bring your baby home right through to around age 12 — as a crib first, then as your child's own desk and bench.

Why We Built It This Way

We didn't want to sell parents something they'd need to replace within a few months. So instead of a crib with a separate conversion kit you buy later, we built the conversion into the crib itself. When your baby's outgrown the crib stage, usually around six months, you simply reconfigure the same pieces. No extra parts, no additional cost, nothing to order in.

How the Conversion Works

It's a straightforward reconfiguration using the existing components — full instructions are included, and there's nothing to buy separately to make it happen. What was your baby's sleeping space becomes somewhere for your child to draw, do homework, or just have a space that's theirs.

How This Compares to a "Convertible Crib"

You'll see plenty of cribs marketed as "convertible" or as furniture that "grows with your child." Worth knowing what that usually means in practice. We checked the two closest UK bedside crib competitors directly against their own product pages:

What Our Customers Say

"This one appealed to us the most because it lasts for years, after being converted from a crib into a desk and seat... Looking forward to our three year old son trying out the desk in a few months."  — Anne Lindley-French

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy anything extra to convert it?

No. Everything you need is part of the crib you already own. You just reconfigure it following the instructions.

What age is the desk and bench suitable for?

Once your child has outgrown the crib (usually from around six months), the desk and bench can be used right up to approximately 12 years old depending on the size of your child.

Will it still look like baby furniture once it's converted?

No — in desk and bench form it looks like a piece of children's furniture in its own right, not a repurposed crib. Check out our gallery to see how it will look as a desk and bench.

Can I convert it back into a crib for a second baby?

Yes. The conversion works both ways, so if you have another baby after your first child has moved on to the desk and bench, you can reconfigure it back into a crib.
