Safe Sleeping

At Huddle, we want parents to enjoy their Bedside Crib with complete peace of mind.

That is why our bedside crib has being rigorously tested by independent industry leading labs, and conforms to the latest bedside crib British Standard BS EN 1130:2019, to ensure your baby is safe, whilst sleeping by your side.

There is an array of advice available concerning safe sleeping for new babies. We highly recommend all new parents to familiarise themselves with this advice at the earliest opportunity.

Two well respected and authoritative sources are the NHS and the Lullaby Trust. Links to their website can be found at the bottom of the page.

Huddle 4 in 1 Bedside Crib

For safe use of the Huddle 4-in-1 Bedside Crib, we provide the following set of guidelines:

  1. Unless directed otherwise by your doctor, follow safe sleep advice and guidelines, by placing your baby on their back to sleep or rest. Do not be tempted to place a baby on their tummy or side.
  2. Please ensure that if the crib is being used as a standalone crib that the side is up and fully secured.
  3. If the Huddle is being used as a bedside crib the side can be partially lowered by removing the two white knobs and lowering the zips. You must always refer to the user instructions when setting up the crib in this mode. It is important that the baby is not left unattended when the side is lowered.
  4. Also, in bedside crib mode – ensure that the crib is firmly attached as close as possible to the bed, securing it with straps provided. The 10 height settings will allow you enough options, to ensure that the top of the 12cm barrier is in line with the adult mattress.
  5. Always read and follow the warnings and instructions provided with the Huddle. If you own a second-hand crib without the instructions, or have lost the instructions, you can email customercare@huddlebaby.com and we will email or post you a copy.
  6. Only use a Huddle branded mattress supplied by us. Our mattresses are custom made, fitting the crib perfectly. Our mattresses are fully tested and comply with all UK and EU safety standards. Mattresses bought elsewhere cannot always be guaranteed to hold the same safety certification.
  7. Please do not place anything on top or underneath the mattress. Only crib sheets should be placed over the mattress and ideally, ensure that the sheets are cotton. Cotton sheets made specifically for the Huddle, are available to purchase on this website. Do not tilt the mattress.
  8. Never use a bumper or padded sides with the Huddle, as they may cause a suffocation risk. Also, do not add any padding, material or other items around the mattress edge and between the adult bed and the Huddle.
  9. The Huddle bedside crib does not have a reflux incline or tilting option, unlike some other bedside cribs. This is by design. In fact, UK safe sleep experts advise against using an incline in a bedside crib—even for reflux—unless medically directed otherwise
  10. When your child is able to roll, sit, kneel, or pull itself up, the Huddle should no longer be used as a bedside crib, stand alone crib or bassinet. This is usually at around the age of 6 months but differs from child to child. However, at this point the Huddle can be transformed into a desk and bench which can be used by your child for up to another 12 years!

Huddle cannot accept liability for any modified cribs. Our cribs are tested solely for use as shown in the instructions for the 4 adaptations of the furniture.

  • NHS “Start for Life”

Their guidance emphasises that babies should sleep on a firm, flat surface and that the safest place for your baby to sleep for the first 6 months is in a cot, lying on their back, in the same room as you.
